The 'E' Word!
And I thought I was acquainted with the heart and soul of this word…how cockeyed my thought was! A similar idea was shared by many attendees of this prolific event organized by CEID, which marked the beginning of the Entrepreneurship 101 series directed at generating awareness about entrepreneurship. The session was addressed by Mr. Vinod Sagar Dumra, a DA-IICT visiting faculty and a close friend of his Mr. Prem Kapoor, an IIT-K alumnus.
Mr. Dumra answered the queries received from the audience. He termed entrepreneur as a person creating NEW business activity in an economy. “Quickness in implementing the idea, spotting untapped markets, innovation and creativity are crucial to an entrepreneur’s success”, he added. Talking about the requisite personal characteristics, he stressed upon the desire for excellence and independence, self-confidence and readiness to sacrifice emotional properties. “An MBA degree is an added advantage for sure to help deal with the logical and financial aspects and therefore, should be pursued if time is not a constraint”, was his reply to the most common query. Thereafter, he elaborated a 12-step marketing process, covering all the facets of a business plan, which is necessary to go through before taking the plunge.
Mr. Kapoor talked about the life in technology land sharing his own experiences of the Silicon Valley. “One should be very much observant and mull over an idea from all the possible angles. Don’t refine your objective every time, don’t widdle around and try to go for small successes. Above all, think about the payback for your product because you are into entrepreneurship to earn profits and not for the fun of it or philanthropy.”
To inspire the audience, some light was thrown on the ideologies of late Dhirubhai Ambani followed by a brief presentation on a few young entrepreneurs who rejected plum job offers.
The event was a grand success, thanks to everyone who contributed to it. Watch out fellas, a lot more in store for you!
